FAQ

What should I expect during my colonic session?

Upon arrival of your first appointment you will be asked to fill out a confidential intake form. The therapist will then thoroughly discuss your current state of health and your goals of colonics. After all of your questions have been answered you will be guided into the session room where you be instructed on how to best operate your session. You will then be left in privacy to remove your clothing from the waist down only and position yourself onto the Angel of Water. At this time you will easily insert the disposable pencil-sized nozzle into your rectum (~1.5-2 inches). The nozzle is lubricated, and there is no pain and because of our system’s design, the nozzle cannot go any further into the rectum than is required. Once the nozzle is inserted, you will cover yourself with a blanket and can then recline back to position your self comfortably.

The therapist will enter the room once you are ready and instruct you to turn on the water flow switch. As the water flows, you will feel the water filling your colon and will eventually feel the natural urge to release. There is no need to turn off the water flow at any time to release. As the water softens the fecal matter the feces will smoothly flow around the nozzle and down into the drain of the unit. The nozzle will remain inserted throughout the entire session. The Angel of Water uses a vented system to ensure your experience remains odour free. With Angel of Water there is no mess, no fuss and no odour, providing a relaxing and dignified experience.

The therapist will stay with you until you desire privacy and will check back often. If at anytime you have any questions or concerns you can call the therapist by simply pressing a call button.

The session will last about 35 to 45 minutes. At the end of your session you can simply turn off the water flow to stop the session.

You will then remove yourself from the nozzle, but remain reclined on the unit for a few minutes to ensure you have drained the excess water out of your body. You can clean up after yourself using the built-in personal shower spray. Again, the therapist will check on you as much as necessary to ensure you are comfortable with the process.

A complimentary probiotic will be provided for you while you relax in the waiting room. The therapist will consult with you about your experience and provide you with some post-colonic recommendations.

What is Colon Hydrotherapy? (Colonics)

Colon Hydrotherapy, also called Colonics is simply the removal of toxins and waste that have collected in the colon, by the introduction of warm water through the rectum. The water cleans the colon by flowing into the colon, and flushing back out, carrying waste and toxins with it.

Colonics is important as without a clean and healthy colon, you can be susceptible to chronic or occasional constipation, fatigue, digestive issues, and other health concerns. As well, colonics is a highly effective method to cleanse your colon, and colon hydrotherapy is the only therapy that is proven to eliminate toxic residue that has buried itself into the internal walls of the colon.

What is the difference between Open vs Closed system?

At Clear Living Clinic, we utilize an FDA and Health Canada approved open-system known as, the Angel of Water. This state-of-the-art system is equipped with both a UV and activated carbon filtration system.

The two types of colonic systems to choose from are referred to as “closed-tube” and “open-basin”. Typically, people have shortened the names simply to closed-system and open-system. Both forms of colon hydrotherapy bring water into the colon to assist in the removal of waste.

  • Open Colon Hydrotherapy System

During an open-system session, the water flows automatically at a constant pressure of 1 psi. The water is gravity driven and flows from a gravity tank located at the end of the unit. Due to the constant yet gentle flow of the water, generally 35-40 minutes is sufficient.

The disposable speculum used in open-system is much thinner as it is only about pencil size.   Although it can be up to 10 inches long, only 1.5-2 inches is self-inserted into the rectum. The unit and equipment are designed so that the client can self administer the session painlessly with ease. Tubing is used to connect the speculum to the unit where the water flows. There is a basin located in the middle of the unit with a drain in the bottom. This where the client will release into and waste will travel down the drain into the sewer system underneath the basin. Although, the waste is “open” to air, the unit is designed as a vented system to ensure no odor or mess.

Due the larger tubing and plumbing used in open-system, there is no need for additional abdominal massage because larger amounts of stool are able to pass through the system sufficiently.

Open system that allows you to evacuate up to 5x more fecal matter and waste in a single session than those systems that are a closed system.

A closed system does not allow larger pieces of waste to be evacuated through the one inch diameter proctoscope. As well, you may experience fewer releases in the same length session as compared to our open sessions. Often, you will need to receive an abdominal massage to break up the material before the session.

Although both systems work well, our open system allows our clients to enjoy their privacy, while getting a more efficient cleanse.

  • Closed Colon Hydrotherapy System

During a closed-system session, the water tends to flow at a very low pressure (less than .5 psi) although adjusted by a therapist throughout the entire session. Due to the slow flow of water a session can range between 45-65 minutes.

There is an instrument used to comfortably open the anus, called a speculum. The speculum has a diameter of approximately ¾ inch and is inserted about 2-3 inches deep. Gently opening the anus reduces the need for any excess force during elimination. There are two lines then connected. The water line connects to the water traveling to the equipment and the disposable waste line connects to a viewing tube where you can see the matter being eliminated from your body. The waste travels from your body, through the speculum into the waste line, passes through the viewing tube and drains into the sewer system.

The waste is contained in a tube and “closed” from air from start to finish.

The therapist often provides an abdominal massage during the session to help break up any fecal matter and allow for easier release.

Is Colonic safe?

Yes. A colonic is much safer and easier than the common enema.

How does a Colon Hydrotherapy treatment compare to an enema?

An enema is limited in its reach, as it can only cleanse our the rectum and the lower part of the colon. While hydrotherapy reaches the rectum and the entirety of the colon. As one Dr. Norman Walker accounts on Hydrotherapy, “One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas.”

Is Colon Hydrotherapy Painful?

Colon Hydrotherapy is anything but painful. In fact many of our clients report their sessions as refreshing and relaxing.

Who cannot have colonics?

Anyone who does not pass the contraindications (requirements) which is indicated in our confidential intake form.

If you had the following conditions within the last 6 months; congestive heart failure, intestinal perforation, carcinoma of the rectum, fissures or fistula, severe hemorrhoids, renal insufficiency, colon or rectal surgery, abdominal hernia, first & last trimester of pregnancy, cirrhosis.

Is there any possibility of bacterial or viral contamination from prior use of the colon hydrotherapy equipment?

The Angel of Water system uses a single-use, sterile rectal nozzles. The use of sterile disposables coupled with the implementation of the Angel of Water’s multi-stage sanitation protocol with EPA registered disinfectants leaves no danger of contamination.

Does having a menstrual period at the time of a colon hydrotherapy session have any effect on the experience?

No, being on your menstrual period does not have an effect, it is considered to be a good time to cleanse, as your body is naturally cleansing. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the session but, some woman do prefer to wait for their period to be over to do a cleansing session.

What are the preparations I should take before my session?

We recommend refraining from eating and caffeine about two hours before the session. Also try to avoid red meat and alcohol 24 hours before your session. We also suggest drinking 8-10 glasses of water, eat primarily vegetables, fruits and grains the day before the session. Please refer to our Pre & Post Colonic Guide in Procedure page.
